Mercoledì 31 luglio 2019, durante la rivolta nel quartiere di Exarchia (ad Atene) contro la scarcerazione delo sbirro che uccise Alexis Grigoropoulos, di 15 anni, alcuni membri di un gruppo politico hanno interferito con la continuazione della rivolta e hanno tentato di fermarla in via Arachovis.
Lo stesso gruppo politico, che senza motivo attacca gli immigrati a Exarchia, sta chiaramente cercando di controllare la piazza di Exarchia.
Li abbiamo avvertiti di smettere di attaccare gli immigrati senza motivo, altrimenti si troveranno faccia a faccia con noi. Devono interrompere la loro attività contro le rivolte a Exarchia e devono smettere di nascondersi dietro la copertura politica per le attività [riguardanti] gang e teppisti.
Questi gruppi, che si nascondono dietro la copertura politica, non stanno facendo attività contro la mafia, ma stanno attaccando gli immigrati senza motivo.
Molto chiaramente, ciò che questi gruppi stanno facendo è simile al modo in cui gli sbirri si comportano contro gli immigrati.
Per noi è chiaro, se tu, come immigrato, lavori per loro e loro guadagnano da te, non c’è problema nei tuoi confronti, ma se tu (come immigrato) non collaborerai con loro, verrai attaccato con la scusa di essere un criminale.

Atene, Grecia: Le proteste contro la scarcerazione del poliziotto che uccise Alexis Grigoropoulos si trasformano in rivolta
La scarcerazione di Epaminondas Korkoneas è arrivata dopo che un tribunale, lunedì 29 luglio 2019, ha ridotto la sua sentenza dall’ergastolo per omicidio premeditato a soli 10 anni di carcerazione, sulla sola base di un buon comportamento prima dell’omicidio, il che significa che qualsiasi poliziotto greco può sparare e uccidere bambini perché in precedenza non hanno mai ucciso nessuno. Un altro aspetto oltraggioso del caso è che l’ergastolo è stato ridotto a 10 anni nonostante il fatto che pochi anni fa, durante un processo, ha dichiarato pubblicamente in tribunale che “non chiederà perdono a un ragazzo di 15 anni per avergli sparato”. Allo stesso tempo Vasilis Saraliotis, che era di pattuglia con Korkoneas nella notte dell’omicidio, è stato reputato innocente di qualsiasi crimine, nonostante il fatto che non avesse fatto nulla per impedire al suo collega, accanto a lui, di sparare.

6 dicembre 2008, pochi minuti dopo le 21:00 – Punto d’inizio della rivolta di dicembre. Due poliziotti estraggono le loro armi e uno di loro spara contro un gruppo di giovani che vanno in giro il sabato sera, nel cuore del distretto di Exarchia, nel centro di Atene, un’area con una lunga storia di rivolta contro l’autorità e di rivolte per ragioni socio-economiche e politiche, abitata principalmente da anarchici, anti-autoritari e liberali. Il proiettile della polizia arriva nel cuore e uccide il 15enne Alexandros Grigoropoulos.
Non appena la notizia dell’uccisione di Alexis si diffonde, principalmente attraverso internet, centinaia di persone del resto di Atene si radunano a Exarchia, circondata da centinaia di poliziotti antisommossa, che a loro volta infuriano ulteriormente le persone e il quartiere va rapidamente “in fiamme”, con barricate fiammeggianti e attacchi con pietre contro la polizia, durate per tutta la notte.
Quasi dalla stessa notte, la rivolta di Exarchia si diffonde in tutta la Grecia, con attacchi contro le caserme di polizia, anche nei villaggi greci. Proteste e manifestazioni, che si intensificano nella diffusa rivolta in Grecia, tutti i giorni e le notti per le settimane a venire, mentre gli edifici pubblici vengono occupati dai manifestanti in decine di città e paesi.
Al di fuori della Grecia, manifestazioni di solidarietà, rivolte e scontri con la polizia hanno luogo anche in oltre 70 città del mondo, tra cui Londra, Parigi, Bruxelles, Roma, Dublino, Berlino, Francoforte, Madrid, Barcellona, Amsterdam, L’Aia, Copenaghen, Bordeaux, Colonia, Siviglia, Sao Paulo, comprese Nicosia e Paphos a Cipro, dimostrano per la prima volta, prima della “Primavera araba” che le persone possono diffondere le notizie e reagire attraverso proteste, in tutto il mondo, per la stessa questione, da San Francisco a Wellington, da Buenos Aires alla Siberia.
Mentre i disordini sono stati provocati dall’omicidio di Alexis Grigoropoulos da parte della polizia, le reazioni sono durate così a lungo semplicemente perché sono state radicate in cause più profonde, come la crisi finanziaria in arrivo un anno dopo (in Grecia), che era già stata avvertita dalle classi più povere e dalle generazioni più giovani attraverso l’accrescimento del tasso di disoccupazione e un sentimento di generale inefficienza e corruzione delle autorità, delle istituzioni e dei politici di destra dello Stato greco (principalmente i partiti politici “Nuova Democrazia” e “PASOK”).

Wednesday 31 July 2019, during the riot of Exarchia against the release of the cop who murdered 15 year old Alexis Grigoropoulos, some members of a political group interfered with the continuation of the riot and tried to stop it at Arachovis street.
The same political group, which attacks immigrants for no reason in Exarchia is very clearly trying to control Exarchia square.
We have warned them to stop attacking immigrants for no reason, otherwise they will come face to face with us. They have to stop their activity against riots in Exarchia and they have to stop hiding behind political cover for gang and hooligan activity.
What these groups, which hide behind political cover, are doing is not activity against the mafia but attacking immigrants for no reason.
Very clearly, what these groups are doing is similar to the way that the cops behave against immigrants.
It’s clear to us, if you as an immigrant work for them and they make money out of you, there is no problem with you but if you(as immigrant)don’t collaborate with them, you will get attacked with the excuse of being a criminal.

Athens, Greece: Protest turns to riot against the release of the murdering cop of 15 years old Alexis Grigoropoulos
The release of Epaminondas Korkoneas came after a court on Monday 29 July 2019 reduced his term from life imprisonment for premeditated murder to just10 years, on the sole basis of good behavior prior to the murder, meaning it is ok for any greek policeman to fire, shoot and kill children because they haven’t killed anyone before. Another outrageous aspect of the case is that the life sentence was reduced to 10 years despite the fact that few years ago during a trial he publicly said in court that “he will not ask for forgiveness from a 15 years old boy for shooting at him”. At the same time, Vasilis Saraliotis, his policeman partner in crime that was on patrol with Korkoneas on the night of the murder was found innocent of any crime, despite the fact that he did nothing to stop his partner next to him from shooting.

6 December 2008, few minutes after 9 pm – Time Zero of the December Revolt. Two policemen draw their guns and one of them shoots against a group of youngsters hanging out on a Saturday night, at the heart of the Exarcheia district of central Athens, an area with a long history of insurrection against authority and riots for socio economic and political grounds, inhabited mainly by anarchists, anti-authoritarians and liberals. The police bullet finds in the heart and kills 15 year old Alexandros Grigoropoulos.
As soon as the news of Alexis’ murder spreads, mainly through the internet, hundreds of people from the rest of Athens gather at Exarchia, which is circled by hundreds of riot policemen, that in turn infuriates people furtherand the neighborhood quickly goes “on fire”, with flaming barricades and stone attacks against the police, that lasted all throughout the night.
Almost from the same night, the Exarcheia riot spreads all over Greece, with attacks against police stations, even in greek villages. Protests and demonstrations, which escalate to widespread rioting rock Greece every day and night for the weeks to come, while public buildings are being taken over and occupied by protesters in dozens of cities and towns around the country.
Outside Greece, solidarity demonstrations, riots and clashes with local police also take place in more than 70 cities around the world, including London, Paris, Brussels, Rome, Dublin, Berlin, Frankfurt, Madrid, Barcelona, Amsterdam, the Hague, Copenhagen, Bordeaux, Cologne, Seville, Sao Paulo, as well as Nicosia in Cyprus, and Paphos proving for the first time before the “Arab Spring” that people can spread the news and react through protests for the same matter around the globe, from San Francisco to Wellington and Buenos Aires to Siberia.
While the unrest was triggered by the Alexis Grigoropoulos murder by police, the reactions lasted for so long simply because they were rooted in deeper causes, like the coming financial crisis a year later, which was already being felt by poorer classes and younger generations through rising unemployment rate and a feeling of general inefficiency and corruption of the authorities, institutions and right wing politicians of the Greek state (mainly New Democracy and PASOK political parties).
